Fine Art Painting: Idols in Relationship by IZ MAGLOW

iz maglow

"iz .art" : Figure Part 1 (Part 2)

The people in these paintings are shadowy figures that merge in unspecified spaces to form and color braids. The resulting highly structured ensembles are intended to give an impression of volatility and randomness.

Human – Ciphers
"Human Ciphers" are expressive developments of the painting series "Idols" and "Groups in Motion" and form the transition to the "Atomic Figures" and "Cosmic-Series".

The small canvas pictures are of reduced, colourfulness with few color accents. In their entirety, human ciphers form expressive traces of transience. Later works emphasize this aspect through figures, so-called "atomic figures", whose forms are intended to form a unit with the surrounding network structure.

In the paintings "ROYAL AUDIENCE", "SPANISH AUDIENCE" and "SPANISH TRY-ON", Iz Maglow drew on artistic inspiration, with which he had already dealt painterly in "Homage à Diego Velazquez" in the 1990s.

"Idols" are "shining role models" for Iz Maglow. For the painting "MARS, VENUS AND SATURN" this can be understood in the sense of double meaning.

In Bali, Iz Maglow has witnessed how belief in witches and demons still determines the lives of many more than scientific facts. These paintings also express this in ambiguous titles. Names such as "GHOST GUARD" or subtitles such as "PLEASE DO NOT AT HOME AT HOME" should therefore be viewed with a wink. They are sometimes reminiscent of ambiguous, culturally very different "realities".

Thematically related paintings: "Groups in Relationship"

These paintings, which are dominated by reduced lines, colors and shapes, deal with symbolic figures and ensembles. They were created at intervals of 18 years.

Few in Relationship
are figurative, almost black-and-white paintings on the theme of "Figures in Relation", which Iz Maglow painted in the mid-1980s and re-launched in 2002 as inspiration for new interpretations of the theme in "Leaders & Losers" and "Idols".

Very typical of these paintings are figures in dynamic gestures and extreme positions, which were recorded with expressive style on various finds of cardboard or paper.

As if black color fought against white color and then both colors fought back again, the characters tell the process of their "birth" as "artistic individuals". The reduction in color created clear forms that contrast with expressive ciphers.
